All aboard the Safari bus. In your very own carriage, your class will have their questions answered by a Zoo teacher.

Program description

This program provides your students a unique safari experience with an expert Zoo Teacher, who will cater to your area of focus and answer students’ questions. Be transported through arid landscapes and savannah grasslands exploring the open plains, learning about some of the world’s most endangered species.

The Exclusive Safari Teacher is customised to suit your students and area of focus. Our Zoo Teachers have knowledge in a wide variety of areas and can cater the experience to meet your needs.

Jump on board, sit back and immerse yourself in the wonder of wildlife – the most thrilling safari adventure you’ll have this side of Africa!

Students will learn: 

  • About various habitats and the animals who live there
  • Animal adaptations and the features that help them survive
  • What threats are faced by wildlife
  • How to fight extinction

Use the activities in the Teaching Guide (below) to spark students’ curiosity before their zoo visit.

During your visit

Connect and Understand 

On your Safari adventure, you’ll experience the grasslands of North America and Africa, spotting Bison, Oryx, Rhino, Zebra, Ostrich, Giraffe and more. Experience the arid grasslands, the waterhole, over the river and into the wide-open African savannah. Students will have the chance for discussion about whatever piques their interest, whether it be the adaptations of a variety of animals and what features they have to help them survive, or the threats faced by wildlife and what actions can be made to help fight extinction.  

Your zoo visit will include:  Introduction (for arrivals between 9:45am – 10:00am), Zoo Teacher Safari Bus Tour (40 minutes), exploring habitats and keeper talks. Check out your Teaching Guide for other ideas of what to do at the zoo.

Your booking confirmation email will list your group's education workshop/s and safari bus tour time. Each workshop time has its own map and daily itinerary. Paper maps will be provided to you on the day.

Exclusive Safari Teacher is an outdoor all-weather program; the students will need appropriate clothing for weather conditions. This could include a raincoat, hat and sun protection.

School groups will enter Werribee Open Range Zoo via the Main Entrance. Organising teachers please check in with our Admissions team upon arrival. More information.
